How to pick the right clothing color for you
Can you imagine living in black and white? I for one cannot. Colour is such a powerful tool.
Colour can make you look vibrant or make you look dull.
Colour can leave a positive impression or an unpleasant one
Colour can lift your spirit on dull days
Colour is an unspoken language.
Too much or too little is up to you.
Colour is not just what you see on the skin. Colour is also what you are inside.
When we say clothing colors with skin tone, it does not just mean the shade of skin but the shade of hair, eyes, undertone, and overtone as well. You must be reading about this in various magazines and watching videos, reading blogs. In the today blog post, am going to take this further and describe clothing colors “INSIDE OUT”
Let’s start with OUTSIDE which as I have mentioned earlier is about a person’s coloring (including skin tone, hair color, eye color, undertone, and overtone). Now since we are doing a broad classification, this is just a simple guideline and not a hard rule.
As a broad classification, dividing the skin shade into three basic categories: Light-Medium and Dark.
Light Skin: This will be the lightest or palest skin shade. Their undertones are generally purples and blues hence their complementary colors are on a cool spectrum of the color wheel. Cool colors like Blue, purple, pink, green will look great. White will tend to wash the skin out and black will be high contrast, hence avoid black and white in their purest form.
Medium Skin: Their undertones are generally Yellow, peach and olive. This skin tone can normally carry wear all colors except for pure yellows. Earth Colors (Brown, Khaki, camouflage green, mustard, tan) look great. Gray, blue, red looks great as well. Pastels might not look great, but it depends on the fabric as well.
Dark Skin: Their undertones will be in various shades of brown and might have a yellow or blue tint to it. Black and dark brown are not very flattering for this shade. Khaki, purple, gray, redwork well, any deep dark color besides black, yellow and dark brown should be good.
Now let’s get to the INSIDE
Personal coloration is dependant on :
• Personal energy and vibe
• Personality
• Body frame
• Intensity in eyes
• Voice pitch and tone
• Body language
Colour has its energy.
• Blue, green, violet or gray range are soft, gentle and approachable. They take little energy to wear.
• Dramatic colors like Reds and Oranges take more energy to wear.
So on days, you want to look powerful, you feel dull and want a sudden shot of energy, coffee is not your only solution… Wear a red outfit, or even as small as a red scarf or red lipstick and see the change in your mood.
